MCS History
Media Captioning Services, Inc., located in Carlsbad, California, was formed in 1987 by Patricia Ferrier, a former court reporter with 13 years' experience in U.S. District Court. MCS was the first woman-owned captioning company incorporated in the U.S. It was formed to provide realtime closed captioning for the deaf and hard of hearing, and has expanded its audience to include many diverse constituencies among the hearing population.

In 1990, MCS began closed captioning field tests on CNN, and in early 1991 began closed captioning on CNN, starting with one hour a day of CNN programming. Over the past nine years, MCS has grown to provide over 15,000 hours per annum of closed captioning of national and local news and sports programming.

In January 1999, MCS opened a second office in the Orlando, Florida area to provide realtime closed captioning for our national and local clients. MCS has fully integrated its East Coast offices into daily realtime closed captioning operations, giving MCS unique bicoastal flexibility to service a wide range of daily captioning hours.
