ZAPATISTAS
Members of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), an anticapitalist revolutionary group based in Chiapas, Mexico, which claims to represent the rights of the indigenous population while fighting for democracy, peace and justice for all Mexicans; formed in 1983, the group became well known in 1994 after seizing cities in Chiapas and declaring war on the Mexican government one day after the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) became operational.
Usage: Report on a massive celebration marking the ninth anniversary of the Zapatista movement's 1994 uprising against the government.
