BLACK WATER
- A complex interaction of red tides and other algae blooms that when mixed with freshwater or sewage runoff from land forms patches of water offshore or nearshore that appear black in satellite imagery due to a high concentration of microscopic plants and other dissolved matters, and a lack of oxygen.
- Usage: Report on recent deaths of manatees off the coast of Florida allegedly as a result of a massive algae bloom.

- A chemical spray or dust applied to plants in order to cause the leaves to drop off prematurely.
