ECOWAS
Economic Community of West African States, a regional group of 15 countries, founded on May 28th, 1975, when 15 West African countries signed the Treaty of Lagos and declared its mission to promote economic integration and achieve collective self-sufficiency for the member states by means of economic and monetary union by creating a single large trading bloc.
Usage: Live coverage of comments by U.S. President George W. Bush during a visit by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan to discuss Bush's recent trip to Africa and the current situation in Liberia.
