The acts or possible acts of a volunteer committee organized to suppress and punish crime summarily (as when the processes of law appear inadequate); self-appointed, unauthorized administration of justice.
Usage: Report on consequences of saturating public with information on possible suspects of crimes, such as the issuing of Amber Alerts for children thought to have been abducted or kidnapped, which could lead ordinary citizens to take law enforcement into their own hands.
